Seneca - Turning Point Parks

Starting in Seneca Park on the east side of the Genesee River we cross over to the west side on a pedestrian bridge high above the river. Spectacular views of the river gorge looking north and the Veterans Memorial Bridge looking south. Heading north on the Genesee Riverway Trail, there is another view of the river gorge from a Kodak parking lot. As we continue riding north we pass the St. Bernard's Seminary building now a senior living center. The building is made of Medina red sandstone. The same red sandstone was used to build a wall in front of the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery (adjacent to the St. Bernard's building property) and a chapel within the property. We will cycle within the cemetery grounds to look at some of the beautiful headstones. Adjacent to Holy Sepulchre is the City of Rochester Riverside Cemetery. We will also cycle within these grounds. Both cemeteries have several large well landscaped ponds. At the northern edge of the Riverside Cemetery is the Turning Point Park Trail that heads down to the river and continues on a wooden boardwalk almost 3/4 of a mile long built a few feet above the river water in the basin called the Turning Point. Can you determine why it is called a turning point? Continuing north from Turning Point Park boardwalk we cycle underneath the Colonel O'Rourke Bridge and end at the Port of Rochester. Turn around and retrace your rolling wheel to the Seneca Park start to complete this 12 mile rolling hills ride. This ride is ridden mostly on a paved trail except for a very short distance on extremely lightly traveled streets.
