Andy Stewart, RBC Education Director, turned his first wrench for pay in 1973.  He learned his craft at Geo Rennie’s and Pedallers before leaving Rochester for Cleveland, where he owned and managed “Bike One” for 15 years.  Dozens of budding mechanics and hundreds of riders have been taught bike repair, riding skills and even frame building by Andy over the years.  He returned to his Rochester roots and now works at Full Moon Vista.  He welcomes the opportunity to share his experience and knowledge with members, whether at the clinics or on our club rides.

This year we will continue using the Penfield Recreation Center, located at 1985 Baird Rd  to host our clinics.
We look forward to growing our relationship with Penfield and the likely addition of Penfield residents attending our clinics.
Registration for all RBC clinics will be through the RBC Website.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Andy could use some help during the “hands on” portion of the Flat Tire Clinics.  It would involve a couple of hours at one or more of the clinics to guide the student in the fine art of fixing a flat.  If you can help, drop Andy a note.

Is your bike ready for the Spring?

Let us show you what your bike needs before you head out for your first club ride. We’ll learn how to assess and discuss possible servicing in detail. Andy’s hope is that the attendees’ early rides will be trouble free and they will be able to better monitor and anticipate their bikes needs during the rest of the season.  Attendees may bring their bikes and, time permitting, Andy will assess each bike’s condition.

How much do you really know about safe riding?

We are excited to be able to offer a series of bicycle safety classes this year led by RBC Member, Lori Burch.  Lori is a Cycling Instructor certified by the League of American Bicyclists.

Part 1 (Thursday May 21, 6:30PM, Rain date May 28) will cover basic bike handling skills for the beginning cyclists or for those looking to improve their handling skills.

Part 2 (Saturday, May 23, 1:00PM, Rain date May 30) will cover hazard avoidance skills as well as recommended gear for safe cycling.

These will be hands-on, active participation classes, so bring your bike, rain jacket and your helmet!  Class size is limited to a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 10 attendees. Sign up required.  As these parts are largely held outside, extreme weather will be a cause to reschedule.

A registration fee of $25 is required when signing up.  Current RBC members will have this fee refunded upon completion of both parts of the Safety Class.

Part 1-  Improve your comfort level and confidence with riding on 2 wheels!  This is a hands-on, active participation cycling class so bring a helmet and your bike.  In this class participants will learn about and practice the following basic cycling skills in the safety of a closed parking lot:

This is a hands-on active participation cycling class so bring a helmet and your bike.  In this class participants will learn about and practice the following skills in the safety of a closed parking lot:

    • Proper helmet fit
    • The ABC Quick Check for a safe ride
    • Quick Stop
